Late Night Thoughts

As I lie here, surrounded by the vibrant bursts of fireworks lighting up the night sky, my two dogs are nestled peacefully under the bed. Their calmness is a comforting contrast to the chaos outside, and it makes me reflect on the many dogs who aren't so fortunate. For some pets, fireworks can be an overwhelming source of fear, distress and anxiety.

The loud noises, bright flashes, and unpredictability can cause anxiety and panic in dogs, leading them to seek out hiding spots or even to act out in fear. As someone who is fortunate enough to have dogs who are relatively unfazed by these celebrations, I am keenly aware of the many dogs who suffer greatly.

If you're planning to light off fireworks, please consider the impact it can have on pets in your community. Take measures to help reduce their stress: inform your neighbors in advance, keep pets indoors, and create a safe, quiet space for them to retreat. A little empathy and understanding can go a long way in ensuring that all dogs can experience a peaceful night, even amidst the festive explosions.

Happy Labor Day weekend! Wishing everyone a safe and enjoyable time as we celebrate the end of summer and all the hard work that makes our lives thrive. Enjoy the festivities and take a moment to relax and appreciate the long weekend!
